    SOME EARLY BRITISH BAHÁ'ÍS

Reading the stories of these early Bahá'ís who lived at the time of our parents or grandparents, not only gives us a fascinating glimpse into everyday life as it was in those times, but also demonstrates how apparently "ordinary" people were transformed by Bahá'u'lláh's Message and dedicated their lives to His service.

Did you know that at the end of the first Bahá'í Centruy ( May 1944) there were only about 80 active Bahá'ís and only 4 ( lapsed from 5) Local Assemblies in the UK? At their national convention the delegates wished to adopt a six year plan and asked the Guardian to set its goals. The Guardian's response was "Advise formation of 19 spiritual asssemblies spread over England, Wales, Scotland, N.Ireland and Eire." This called for a 6 fold increase in Assemblies and about a three fold increase in adult Bahá'ís .... Did they achieve it?

See Looking Back In Wonder p91-93 for the amazing events during the last few months of the plan.
